NAC Consultants as Capacity Builders

On August 28, NAC consultants and staff attended a Consultant Convening to hear guest speaker, Frank J.” Omowale” Satterwhite, President and CEO of the National Community Development Institute (NCDI), in Oakland, CA. His lively and inspiring presentation focused on consultants as capacity builders within a broad context of community building that addressed national trends and guiding principles.
He shared the NCDI Capacity Building framework of “building capacity for social change.” This awesome learning opportunity reinforced NAC’s core values and set a good context for working with our consultants to develop new ways of working with communities. At NAC we see our consultants as facilitators who support and guide communities to use their expertise to solve their own problems and bring about change.
NAC staff also gave a preview of our planned 2008 implementation of a consultant certification process which will result in more professional development opportunities for NAC consultants. We value and want to ensure high quality and culturally competent technical assistance and training.
